HOUSE Freelance DP - Laika
LAIKA/House is currently qualifying and adding candidates to our database of freelance talent for pending and future projects. Freelance work can vary from one day to several months depending on the project. Individuals will be required to work on-site, during normal business hours, and will be paid as W2 employees.
General Summary
This position is responsible for the realization/creation of the lighting compositions for Stop Motion and CG Animation. This position also requires the attention to Motion Control as an Operator.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
* Consults with the Design Team, Directors, Producers and Animators to determine the processes, strategies and techniques necessary to develop layouts, lighting, and compositing for the full potential of the project.
* Provide estimates of labor and materials for a given task for bidding purposes.
* Develop pre-light and shoot schedules in conjunction with the Producer, Coordinator, and SAAM.
* Observes and reviews traditional and digital designs for characers and sets to determine camera and lighting requirements. Selects working process and materials utilizing knowledge of cenematic thechnigues.
* Responsible for technical preparation to determine required lighting, color lookup tables, film recording profile, eventual film stock, shutter angles, filter factors, camera distance, depth of field and focus, angles of view, and other variables to produce desired visual results.
* Views all images after processing/rendering/recording and makes adjustments, as necessary to achieve desired visual results.
* Works with SAAM on monitoring equipment and material requirements and inventory. Develops R&D plan with SAAM and oversees implementation.
* Surveys set or location for potential problems, observes effects of lighting, simulation desired lighting levels, and coordinates necessary changes prior to approvals.
* Helps maintain an orderly and organized working environment and is responsible for general maintenance of camera/lighting/motion control equipment.
* Is responsible for building and performing complex motion-control camera effects moves with the guidance of the Director. Interpersonal Contacts Most communication will take place within groups consisting of the Producer, Director, Art Director, Coordinator and team colleagues on a project-by-project basis.
Qualifications
* Necessary skills include knowledge of lighting with all capturing devices and equipment necessary to establish the desired look from orginal concept to output.
* Should possess understanding and proficiency with regard to all animation and motion picture lighting equipment, cameras, and rigging.
* Must be able to troubleshoot technical problems associated with motion control and computer equipment.
* 3 years experience.
* Working knowledge of Combustion, Rush, Shake, and Photoshop.
* The ablility to work closely and collaboratively with other employees, vendors and crew members.
* Knowledge of computer scheduling and database systems a plus.
* Stop-motion animation experience a plus.
* Working knowledge of Maya a plus.
* Network of Camera/Lighting resources a plus.

Went to Laika site.
Much to much garbage to fill out for a freelance position.
College education, multiple references may be ok for full time.
Not for senior position freelance.
