Broadcast Editor - The Weather Channel
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Editor is responsible for the editing of daily V.O.s, packages, long form packages and or projects, teases, billboards, tags and other projects as assigned. The editor assures VO’s, packages, etc are edited according to producers scripts and or needs. The editor will contribute to the creative process of editing offering input and ideas to enhance the project. Will operate both linear and non-linear edit equipment and servers as well as, multi-format tape machines.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES:
- Responsible for operation of linear and non-linear edit equipment editing various elements for playback to air and off air video presentations.
- Knowledge of computerized editing, multi-layer effects, audio editing and mixing.
- Edit news type VO’s, packages: both news and long form, teases and other projects as assigned. Edit promos, sales demos, creative services projects, and other projects as assigned.
- Record elements for edit projects, i.e., voice tracks, weather maps, special graphics, etc.
- Operate multi-format tape machines, to include: HDCAM, beta SP, digi-beta, SX, DV, DVCPro, VHS, etc.
- Coordinate project needs with other work areas; i.e., control room for graphics, OCMs for voice tracks, outside contracted voice talent, etc.
- Maintain quality control on all projects and edit sessions.
- Operate audio mixer.
- Operate font programs, type up supers as required and edit as needed.
- Complete work with-in tight dead lines. Ability to complete projects in a timely manner, sometimes with little or no supervision.
- Must have the ability to create and tell a story through editing techniques.
- Coordinate and communicate status of work with various personnel and departments.
- Operate routing panels, VTR’s, test equipment and linear and non-linear edit systems.
- Deliver dub requests and DVDs as assigned.
- Must check in with Producers and or Video Coordinators so that they know your whereabouts at all times.
- Report equipment problems to engineering.
- Report work related problems to supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. KNOWLEDGE:
- Three or more years of broadcast news editing. Non-linear edit experience a must.
- College degree in television or communications or equivalent work experience.
- Good working knowledge of TV production operations edit suites and live studio environment.
- HD edit and related production experience is a plus.
B. SKILL
- Multi-task and prioritize workload.
- Work with multiple format machines, test equipment, computers, linear and non-linear edit equipment.
- Have good team skills. Listening, initiative and follow through.
- Must have ability to create and tell a story through editing techniques.
- Basic computer skills
- Must be able to edit long form projects, independent of supervision.

Hours
The Weather Channel operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Hours worked by The Weather Channel associates will vary according to job responsibility and scheduling demands of each department.
