Video Editor/Compressionist - Sony Pictures Imageworks
The Video Editor/Compressionist works with the Video Editorial Coordinator, other Video Editor/Compressionists, and directly with internal clients to provide a variety of video-related services. The Video Editorial Department acts as a service center to Film Editorial, Marketing, and individual Productions to provide video editing services, video compression services (ie. DVD dailies and processing and transcoding of video data), light motion graphics support, and ingest and output of video material between broadcast-level video decks of various HD and SD formats and the facility-wide data network.
REQUIRED SKILLS
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on a project-by-project basis, occasionally under tight deadlines and with regular client interruption.
* Strong experience working with non-linear editing software, such as Final Cut Pro, with third party I/O cards in a shared-storage environment.
* Experience performing capture/layoff from non-linear editing systems, patching/routing video tape machines, and making dubs.
* Ability to efficiently perform minor troubleshooting on systems that interface with digital video (including NLE’s and decks), and determine when it is appropriate and necessary to escalate the issue to systems engineers.
* Knowledge of various video formats, their frequencies/frame rates, weaknesses and strengths of each, their interoperability, and viable paths for up/down/cross-conversion between them.
* Ability to understand principles of encoding and transcoding video data and be knowledgeable about individual video codecs, color spaces, aspect ratios, frame sizes, file types, and their interoperability and appropriate application within the post workflow.
* Ability to efficiently wrangle data (ie. manage disk space, file locations, proper naming conventions, and file version history).
* Technical aptitude for understanding, implementing, and troubleshooting post-production workflows and ability to take initiative to research and implement strong alternative solutions when necessary.
* Excellent customer-service and interpersonal skills.
* Final Cut Pro (utilizing Aja Kona 3 card)
* DVD Studio Pro/Apple Compressor
* Adobe After Effects, Photoshop
* Mac OS X
* Sony professional broadcast-level VTRs
FAMILIARITY WITH THE FOLLOWING IS A PLUS
* Sony HDCAM-SR (SRW-5500/5000); HDCAM (HDW-F500); Digital Betacam; BetaSP; D1; DVCAM & HDV VTRs
* Digital Rapids StreamZ encoder/compression system
* Ability to read and understand waveform monitors/vectorscopes
* DVS Clipster 4K/Pronto 2K NLE/DDR systems
* Adobe Illustrator or other similar graphics programs
* Creating macros/Apple Scripts in Mac OS X
* Linux environments (Red Hat w/KDE; command-line apps; writing or tweaking scripts)
* Mastering/Broadcast Video Quality Control/QA procedures & guidelines
* File-based editorial and conform workflows, including managing file types and proxies; working in multiple color spaces and color bit depths; proper application of LUTs (ie. REC 709, log, etc) for viewing or delivery; and guaranteeing proper specs and legal levels for broadcast delivery.
* Minor color correction (ie. within an NLE application such as Color in Final Cut Studio or the Avid color tools in Symphony Nitris)
* Avid Media Composer Adrenaline/Avid Symphony Nitris/Avid Xpress Pro
* Terrablock shared high speed storage
