Freelance Video Editor - NY1 News
Position Summary: To combine all the news elements and create a finished package. To edit raw video into a package that is pleasing to the eye. To cut VOs and SOTs. To aid the reporter/writer in the process of building a story to air. To transform the analog video and audio into digital form.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Video Editing
•Prepares tapes to use for editing.
•Edits voice-overs, sound bites and packages for air.
•Digitizes video and audio tapes into the main server.
•Uses creativity and news judgment to create interesting packages.
Editing Room Set-up
•Checks all equipment.
•Reads scopes and audio levels.
•Sets machines to required levels.
Quality Control
•Makes certain all video and sound meet quality standards.
Archiving
•Organizes video and audio tapes
•Documents work into archives
Other duties as assigned. Flexibility with schedule.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Education:
Associates degree in Communication. College degree preferred.
Experience:
Internship at news station and experience with live broadcasts.
1 year experience editing packages and other broadcast elements
1-2 years experience in field operations (shooting, lighting, audio). 1 year non-linear editing experience. Vortex preferred. Character generation/chyron knowledge. Bilingual(Spanish/English)preferred but not required.
